Here are my top 10 self help books for 2024. These are all my personal favorites, some of them new, some of them older, all of them are books that I would refer back to multiple times. If you are starting your self help book journey, these are great books to start with. Some of them will even make you laugh out loud. Whether you want to take charge of your finances, your happiness, or define your personal values, one of these picks is sure to motivate and help you on your journey.

The Happiness Project- Gretchen Rubin

Is a book about the author's year long experiment to be happier. Each month she added a new challenge and shared how it created a positive effect in her life. She also inspires and guides her readers to create their own happiness projects.

This book was one of the first, and most influential, books I have read on happiness. I read it years ago, and still think about it often. It was a joy to read.

Girlosophy- Anthea Paul

This book was my first glimpse into self help and personal growth media. I got it as a tween, and referenced it so often. I photo-copied the pages and put them on my wall because they were beautiful pictures with inspirational messages (This was before Pinterest yall.)

It is a great book for young readers navigating how to take care of themselves, and I think it’s a great book for older audiences as well, with straightforward advice that can benefit anyone.

The Four Agreements- Don Miguel Ruiz

Be Impeccable With Your Word, Don't Take Anything Personally, Don't Make Assumptions, Always Do Your Best, those are the four agreements as written in this book.

I read the four agreements recently after hearing so many recommendations and was pleasantly surprised. It was impactful, concise, and memorable. I love when a self help book delivers the information in a way that is easy to remember and apply to your life.

Presence- Amy Cuddy

In this book, researcher Amy Cuddy explains the effect body language has on people, and how you can use that knowledge to change all areas of your life.

This Book is one of my absolute favorites. I have re-read it so many times. I don’t see it talked about very much but, in today’s culture, information on how you present yourself can be invaluable. Whenever I start something new that I’m nervous about, I refer to this book. If you have a hard time navigating social situations, networking, or conveying confident body language, please check out this book.

The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck- Mark Manson

I heard this recommended over and over on booktok, and at first I wasn’t sure if I would like it. I’m so glad I checked it out anyway. It was such a great perspective shift for me, that I really was not expecting. This book was entertaining and worth the hype.

You Are a Bad Ass at Making Money- Jen Sincero

I really enjoy reading books by Jen Sincero. I love her humor, and her writing feels like talking to a friend. Her personal anecdotes and stories about others are inspiring and really motivate you to go after your big goals. I would recommend this to anyone who is ready to start changing their money mindset. It’s relatable, and not overwhelming, and will help get you motivated for the financial journey ahead.

Atomic Habits- James Clear

This was also pretty hyped, and I had seen it around for quite a while, so I decided to check it out. I would say it’s worth the hype for sure. It breaks down, in specific steps, how to create good habits and break bad habits.

Big Magic- Elizabeth Gilbert

I love reading Elizabeth Gilbert, and I loved this book. This is a great read for anyone who considers themselves a creative, has a creative practice, or wants to start one. I loved reading about her relationship to her writing and how she maintained it.

The Universe Has Your Back

This was a great book for multiple reasons, but one of the most notable for me was that no other book has ever made me want to meditate like this one did. The book is all about letting go, choosing faith over fear, and trusting the universe. It is a breath of fresh air to read.

A Year of Yes- Shonda Rhimes

Is an enjoyable and relatable book about how a woman, Ms. Shonda Rhimes, challenged herself to say yes to anything that scared her. I think it’s a great book to start at the beginning of the year to inspire us to broaden our horizons and challenge ourselves to do things outside of our comfort zone, in order to grow, and also just get more experience out of our lives.
