Before I get into this list, I have to disclose that, although there are some newer books tucked inside, this particular list is a bit of a time capsule of books that I have wanted to read for a long time, a lot of them are older. Perhaps this list will jog fond memories, or inspire you to revisit an old favorite, or pick up something that’s been waiting patiently on your TBR. I will be updating the blog with my reviews, so do stay tuned if you want a new take on some older books. Until then, happy reading!
Six of Crows- Leigh Bardugo
I have read other books by Leigh Bardugo, The Language of Thorns was one of my favorite books of all time, it was just gorgeous. I started the Shadow and Bone trilogy and was excited to watch the netflix adaptation, only to find out it had combined characters with the Six of Crows series. Not wanting to have missing information, I decided to read Six of Crows before I continued watching it. I’ve already heard great things about the Six of Crow series from friends who read it, and expect nothing short of great from Bardugo.
Princess Academy- Shannon Hale
So this one is a re-read. Shannon Hale was my favorite author as a kid, and I usually throw a book of hers onto my reading lists, whether it’s new to me or a re-read. I remember loving this book, and getting a lot of writing inspiration from her fictional world, and imagery, and I just wanted to experience that again.
Circe- Madeline Miller
I’ve seen Circe on a lot of reading lists over the past few years, as well as book displays, and have a friend who highly recommends it. I’ve seen bits of information about Circe in mythology books and have been interested in her full story for a while now, and can’t wait to read this book!
Through the Looking Glass (And what Alice Found there)- Lewis Carroll
Years ago I read Alice in Wonderland and found it so interesting how different it was to the Disney movie I’d grown up with (it was my favorite movie as a kid.) Then I realized some of the familiar scenes I was looking for were actually in Through the Looking Glass, and have been wanting to read it since, and am finally getting around to that.
Lore Olympus- Rachel Smythe
I’ve been wanting to read this for the longest time. I love reading anything related to greek mythology and I love graphic novels as well, and from what I’ve seen the art is awesome, can’t wait to read instead of just looking at it in the book store.
Phyllida and The Brotherhood of Philander- Ann Herendeen
I picked this one up at the dollar store because one, it was a dollar, and two, I can’t turn down a good regency era novel, plus, this one has a LGBTQ twist. I’m so interested to see how it’s written.
Inkheart- Cornelia Funke
I read this as a kid and loved it so much, and I found it going through some old stuff and wanted to refresh my memory of it. Plus I realized I never read any of the sequels, so they could be next!
The Little Prince- Antoine De Saint- Exupery
I never actually read this as a kid, but I did see the movie a few years ago and it brought me to tears in all honesty. It was absolutely adorable
The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue- Mackenzi Lee
This has been on my TBR for quite some time now as well. I picked it up off a Barnes and Noble display and thought it looked cute and fun, not to mention there’s a possibility of a slow burn between best friends, two of my favorite tropes. I have heard some talk about it, which has me even more excited to read.
Fruits Basket- Natsuki Takaya
So this is partly a re-read for me since I have most of the series. Then, when Tokyopop ceased publication and I couldn't find them in stores, I checked out a few more as library books. I got close to completing the series but still had a few books left. Now, I want to do a re-read and finish the series, especially since I saw some of the anime reboot and it blew me away. It was so well done. But I want to finish the books before I finish the anime ( I know, I’m one of those people.)
Howl’s Moving Castle- Diana Wynne Jones
So this is sort of the opposite of the Fruba series since I watched HMC before I even knew the book existed. I’m a little embarrassed to say this one has been on my TBR for many years, but I feel like this year I’m finally jumping on a lot of books that have been waiting on my shelves. I’ve heard the book is much different from the movie and I’ve always been curious about that.
Half a Soul- Olivia Atwater
This actually inspired me to pick up Howl’s Moving Castle because I heard it described as Bridgerton meets HMC and that definitely intrigued me since I love both (I want to make all the comparisons!) Plus it just sounds like a cute read and has gotten a lot of praise so far. So, I’m excited for it!
Lattes and Legends- Travis Baldree
I’ve seen a lot of buzz on this book as one of the ultimate cozy fantasy reads, and that, my love for lattes, and the awesome cover art had me sold.
Peter Pan-J.M. Barrie
I have to be honest I have heard a lot of theories on Peter Pan, but as a girl who grew up adoring the Disney version (and let’s not forget the 2003 live action) I gotta read the source material.
The Witch Boy- Molly Ostertag
I love a good graphic novel, and this one received high praise from one of my favorite book vloggers. From what I’ve seen, I like the artwork as well.
A Frozen Heart- Elizabeth Rudnick
I got this book a few years ago, and it got packed away with some school stuff, but I’ve been wanting to finish it. I love a re-telling from the villain's point of view. Watch out other Disney villain books, I'm coming for you too.
Alice in the Country of hearts- Soumei Hoshino
I read the first book of this series some time ago, and thought it was super cute, from the characters to the artwork. And remember, I love Alice and Wonderland. I recently saw the whole series at my library and would love to finish it.
Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries- Heather Fawcett
It’s got the faeries, and I loves the faeries.
